Lenovo and Polycom Team Up in Video, Voice Communications Alliance
Lenovo and standards-based unified communications (UC) provider Polycom Thursday announced an agreement to deliver Polycom RealPresence HD video and HD Voice solutions on Lenovo tablets and select laptops in the ThinkPad T, X, L, and W series.
Lenovo is the first PC manufacturer to announce plans to work with Polycom-ready products. RealPresence Desktop will enable companies to drive video collaboration and content sharing via video more broadly throughout the organization and also across firewalls in B2B and mobile videoconferences. RealPresence Mobile, a free-to-download software application, is the first enterprise solution for tablets that extends HD video collaboration beyond traditional office boundaries.
"Embedded delivery of Polycom video collaboration software on industry-leading devices, such as Lenovo, adds a new and critical route to market for Polycom," said Sudhakar Ramakrishna, chief development officer of Polycom, in a statement. "Embedded delivery of Polycom video collaboration underscores Polycom's focus and commitment to deliver the most advanced and innovative unified communications and video solutions to enable employees to collaborate with colleagues, customers, experts, and partners from wherever they work or travel."
Other Lenovo products, such as the ThinkPad Tablet, are currently being tested to be Polycom-ready in the first half of 2012. Select Polycom communications solutions, including the Polycom Communicator C100 PC speakerphone and other group and personal video collaboration accessories, are currently available for purchase through Lenovo.
