Brilliant System and Fonix Release Language Learning Speech Solution for Electronic Dictionary

SALT LAKE CITY - Fonix Speech, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fonix Corporation (OTC BB: FNIX - News) released the Fonix Language Learning Speech Solution on a portable electronic dictionary manufactured and sold by Brilliant System, a Hong Kong-based producer of electronic data organizers, translators, and dictionaries. Brilliant System's device, the 7700 Super, went into mass production at the end of September 2006 and is targeted to the Middle Eastern market. Brilliant anticipates shipping around 100,000 units over the next year. Fonix receives unit royalties from the sale of each device.

Brilliant System's portable electronic dictionary bundles the Fonix DECtalk text-to-speech (TTS) engine on processor chips designed by Seiko Epson. The device offers a handheld dictionary solution to students, business and medical professionals, the travel and tourism industry, and educational environments.

Fonix technology enables device users to hear spoken definitions of words and phrases in English and French. The device also features pre-recorded Arabic words and phrases. Users may choose from three TTS voices (male, female, child) and may change the pitch and speed of the voices. Fonix TTS technology is specifically designed for limited-memory devices.
