MacSpeech Clarifies iListen and Apple's Spoken Interface
SALEM, N.H. - In response to customer e-mails MacSpeech Inc. released a statement clarifying how Apple's recent announcement of a forthcoming "Spoken Interface" will relate to its flagship product, iListen.
What Apple is developing is a spoken interface not a speech interface. The difference is important. A spoken interface means the computer will talk to you. It will speak the names of buttons, menus, sliders and other interface elements, providing the developer has followed Apple's guidelines when writing their software. Apple's announcement does not mean they are providing features in the Mac OS that will change the user's speech into text (dictation), which is a speech interface. For that, users will still need iListen.
