Positioning Solutions Introduces Navigation System for Handhelds Featuring Mapopolis Navigator
CLEVELAND, OH - Positioning Solutions announced that complete navigation systems for Palm (NASDAQ: PALM), Sony (NYSE: SNE) and Handspring (NASDAQ: HAND) handhelds featuring Mapopolis Navigator would be available for purchase beginning on August 30, 2003. These new systems will provide real-time spoken prompting on Palm OS handhelds. The systems, which will require Palm OS version 5.0 or later, will generate directions and provide spoken prompts as each turn approaches. Should a wrong turn occur or a turn be missed, the systems automatically re-routes the driver to the destination. "You can keep your attention on the road," said Positioning Solutions CEO Jeremy Straub. "The system will alert you when a turn is approaching so that you don't need to be watching it constantly." Drivers can choose from among recently used addresses, key in a new address, choose a business location or a point from the map for a destination. Using the included Global Positioning System (GPS) module the system already knows where it is located. The systems will be available initially in the United States with Canadian and European models available in early September.
