Audium Helps Launch Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Exhibitor "Wishing Stars"

NEW YORK, NY - Audium, a lower-Manhattan business and voice applications provider, is supporting "Wishing Stars", one of twenty-three rotating installations in the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's "Looking In" storefront exhibition. "Looking In" is designed to help reacquaint visitors to Lower Manhattan with the area's many cultural amenities and aid the spiritual and economic redevelopment of downtown New York by attracting neighborhood residents, commuters and tourists. Audium is helping make "Wishing Stars" a reality by providing the voice application services that power the installation. Wishing Stars uses monitors to display a night sky with flickering stars, and offers passersby the opportunity to add a star to the sky by calling an 800 number and choosing a color. Choosing a color launches a star into the sky and reveals an on-screen wish to the user that is also sent as a text message to their cell phone. "The goal of Wishing Stars is to create a space for give and take, for visitors to leave their mark on the installation with the star that they launch into the sky, and to take away a wish of good fortune and fun," said Richard Ting, one of the exhibit's creators. "By sending a text message of the wish to the participant's phone, Wishing Stars gives the participant something to walk away with, and most importantly, something that will remind them of the installation and the neighborhood after they leave the area. "Looking In" exhibits run from September 3, 2002 to January 31, 2003 in temporarily vacant storefronts on Murray Street and Park Place between West Broadway and Church, in New York City. "Wishing Stars" will be installed at 53 Park Place and will open October 2nd.
