SAFLINK Selected for National Biometric Security Project
BELLEVUE, Wash. - SAFLINKR Corporation announced its selection as a subcontractor to the National Biometric Security Project's Biometrics for National Security Program. Funding of the NBSP was mandated by Congress in 2003 and is administered by the National Security Agency.
NBSP is a fully independent, non-government organization, established to facilitate the application of human identification technology for the security of the United States' national civil infrastructure. SAFLINK personnel will assist BiNS in providing improvements in biometric technologies, standards and test procedures to address the shortfalls between current capabilities and those needed to meet security objectives established by national policymakers. The maximum value of this contract is estimated at $207,000. The BiNS project will examine and catalog current state-of-the-art biometric technology, standards and practices, and make recommendations for improvements. Specific tasks assigned to SAFLINK will include:
· Developing new standards for improving the application performance and
interoperability of biometric technology
· Creating a test and evaluation program for use in federally-sponsored
biometric security initiatives
· Establishing a database of known sources of biometric technology
· Providing educational forums to improve government and public understanding of biometrics as applied to defense and civil infrastructure
· Publishing reports on biometric technology related objectives
