Nuance Named Leader in Worldwide Market Share According to Preliminary Analyst Firm Report on Speech Recognition Software Market

MENLO PARK, Calif. - Nuance (Nasdaq:NUAN), announced that Gartner has named the company the worldwide speech software market share leader, based on port shipments in 2003, in its latest preliminary statistics report, "Speech Recognition Telephony Software: Worldwide, 2003 (Preliminary Statistics)." According to Gartner, Nuance shipped 40 percent of all speech software ports worldwide in 2003; 20 percent more shipped ports than the company's next closest competitor. The number of software ports sold is an important speech industry metric, because it is related to the volume of callers that access a voice automation system, the experience of the vendor, as well as the accuracy and automation rates these systems can achieve.
