Philips Extends Functionality of SpeechMagic for Increased Reporting Workflow Options in Hospitals
VIENNA, Austria - Royal Philips Electronics announced that it has enhanced its speech recognition technology, SpeechMagic. The added functionality is aimed at increasing the choice of reporting-workflows available in hospital-wide speech recognition scenarios. The company will showcase the extended functionality for front-end speech recognition, as well as Island Mode for increased mobility at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting in Dallas from February 14-17.
Island Mode allows physicians to access SpeechMagic outside of the central network, for example on a laptop or tablet PC. In conjunction with the enhanced front-end features, physicians can finalize reports on their mobile client . Alternatively, they can forward generated text to a medical transcriptionist over their preferred network (LAN, WAN, Internet).
Many of the new front-end speech recognition functions have been developed in close collaboration with physicians, transcriptionists and medical IT managers, and include:
- Direct dictation into medical templates to facilitate report creation.
- Inserting AutoText by voice command: blocks of standard texts ("normals") and text blocks with fields. Specific values, such as body height or weight, can be dictated into pre-defined forms within standard text blocks.
- Numerous reporting and dictation features can be controlled hands-free by voice command, for example navigating through the application, selecting a patient's file from a list, or text formatting during and after dictation.
