Loquendo and Università di Trento Collaborate to Support Education and Research on Speech Technologies

TURIN, Italy - Department of Information and Communication Technology (DIT), University of Trento, Italy entered a long term collaboration with Loquendo aiming at supporting the Speech and Language Research laboratories for master and doctoral students. This collaboration is designed to give knowledge of the text-to-speech (TTS), automatic speech recognition (ASR), and spoken dialog applications, such as VoiceXML applications. The Speech Laboratory is already active and uses the most recent versions of Loquendo's speech technologies and platforms.

Loquendo and DIT will collaborate on research topics to enhance speech technologies in speech application. As an example, Loquendo and DIT will jointly address the real-time understanding of spontaneous speech in the context of advanced telecom services within the LUNA project.

LUNA's research results will be validated on different application scenarios, targeted to dialogue-based telecom services of different complexity (e.g. from call routing with utterance classification to dialogue systems with complex semantic domains).

"Current state-of-the-art speech technologies are at a stage where we need to investigate next generation human-machine interfaces," says Giuseppe Riccardi, professor and director of the Adaptive Multimodal Information and Interface Lab of University of Trento. "It is crucial that University and Industry Research Lab work together to achieve this goal. We are pleased to work with Loquendo best-in-class core multilingual speech technologies.

Loquendo offers a multilingual portfolio of speech technologies, which enable systems integrators to provide voice interaction with information. Loquendo currently supports 18 languages from around the world, with additional language technologies under development.
