Nuance Releases Dragon for Mac Medical
Nuance Communications has released Dragon for Mac Medical, the latest version of its speech recognition software for clinicians using Apple Mac computers.
Updated with a more accurate speech recognition engine and specialized medical vocabulary, Dragon for Mac Medical enables medical professionals to dictate documentation of patient encounters directly into Mac-based electronic health records (EHR), such as MacPractice, or other systems.
Dragon for Mac Medical features an enhanced speech recognition engine that offers up to 15 percent greater accuracy over the previous version and supports updated medical vocabularies for more than 90 medical specialties and subspecialties. Dragon for Mac Medical learns users' unique voices over time and grows even more accurate. The software also allows users to set up custom words for terminology unique to their specific locations or areas of specialty and create simple dictation commands for multiple lines or formatted text.
"Documentation is an essential part of the healthcare process, but it often requires a significant time investment from clinicians," said Peter Mahoney, senior vice president and general manager of Dragon and clinical documentation at Nuance, in a statement. "The latest version of Dragon for Mac Medical improves dictation capabilities and allows clinicians to capture specific medical terminology quickly and accurately, restoring valuable time that is better spent providing care to patients."
Additional new features of Dragon for Mac Medical include the following:
- A redesigned interface with a drop-down menu of essential functions;
- Improved support for built-in microphones for all MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac computers;
- Improved support for additional countries, including Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and Singapore; and
- Support for OS X El Capitan (10.11).
Dragon for Mac Medical is currently available for digital download for a limited-time promotional price of $999.99 from the Nuance online store in the United States and will be available through Nuance’s partners and online stores in other English-speaking countries.
