Vuzix, a supplier of voice-enabled smartglasses products, and Evolar, a communications and and logistics company, teamed up to create smartpick, a warehouse application for order picking using the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses .
Many current technology systems require the picker to hold a device in one hand and pick with the other. The smartpick offering from Evolar, which includes the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses and the pre-installed licensed application, now gives the picker the ability to use both hands.
One Belgian company, Bio Bakkerij DeTrog has already implemented smartpick and the Vuzix M100 glasses into its busy organic bakery and has reported significant operational benefits. This bakery sorts and picks 50 types of bread, which are distributed across 150 outlets 24 hours a day. Since using smartpick, it has managed to reduce its error rate by 60 percent and has increased productivity by 25 percent. It has also noted that as a result, its pickers are less stressed within the workplace.
"Smartpick is the ideal application to showcase the Vuzix M100 capabilities. As it is 100 percent cloud-based, organizations do not need any additional infrastructure requirements. Simply an ERP or WMS system to access order data, a printer, and a Wi-Fi connection and they're ready to improve operational efficiency," said Dirk Matheussen, founder of Evolar, in a statement.
"It's fantastic to be the hardware partner of choice for the smartpick application. Order fulfilment can be the most expensive, critical, and time-consuming part of the business operations process, and smartpick is a fantastic tool for any organization that has some form of picking requirement," said Paul Travers, president and CEO of Vuzix, in a statement. "Developers like Dirk and his team are the ideal partner for Vuzix going forward. We are building up an interesting group of organizations that have useful and viable applications for the M100 device, and we look forward to a long, prosperous partnership together."
