VoxGen Awarded Speech Technology Patent

The UK Patent Office has awarded speech recognition specialist, VoxGen, a patent for speech systems that incorporate conversations that are synchronized with any other user interface, such as a graphical user interface. This is often referred to as "multimodality." VoxGen has the right to claim license fees from companies using or selling similar technology within the UK or prevent them from doing so for 20 years. The patent is also pending in the United States.

An example that demonstrates multimodality would be a user filling out a tax return form using a telephone service and submitting details via speech recognition. This information would be updated on a central database so that the form would be available for simultaneous review or amendment online.

Synchronous multimodality defines the manipulation and presentation of data over multiple channels using one or more input/output device.
