Voice Signal and Sendo Partner on Mobile Phone Solution

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND and WOBURN, MA - Sendo and Voice Signal Technologies announced the first phone in Europe to include Voice Signal's advanced speech recognition application. The Series 60-based Sendo X is the first mobile phone developed under a partnership agreement between the two companies. The Sendo X features Voice Signal's Voice-Activated Phonebook, which is designed to allow users to dial any person in their contact list by saying the person's name, with no initial training required. "Sendo has built a solid business in the consumer phone market and is committed to providing consumers with wireless devices that are easy to use and offer the highest quality technology," said Hugh Brogan, chief executive officer of Sendo. "We believe that as mobile phones become increasingly sophisticated, speaker-independent speech recognition will make these converged devices more convenient and fun to use. This will also allow consumers to take advantage of all the exciting new features we are developing for handsets like the Sendo X smartphone. We are excited to work with Voice Signal and bring this new technology to our customers." Sendo intends to launch the phone in the first quarter of 2004 in some European markets, with the rest of the world to follow later in 2004. The Voice Signal application in the Sendo X will initially support four languages including Spanish, Italian, German and English. "We are thrilled to work with such an innovative company as Sendo, and are happy that they have selected Voice Signal to be their speech recognition partner on the Sendo X phone," commented Rich Geruson, Voice Signal's chief executive officer. "Together we hope to make it easier for consumers to use their mobile phones wherever they are."
