SVOX’s TTS Technology Selected by Hyundai for the New ix20
Hyundai has integrated SVOX’s text-to-speech (TTS) technology into the new Hyundai ix20, a multipurpose vehicle that launched in Europe last month.
SVOX’s text-to-speech software is pre-installed and embedded in the ix20 in 10 European languages. SVOX’s solution will be rolled out across many other Hyundai and Kia vehicles during the next few years.
“Our infotainment and navigation systems are designed with driver convenience and safety in mind,” said Mark Hall, marketing director at Hyundai Motor Europe. “SVOX’s text-to-speech technology means that our drivers can feel as though they’re receiving feedback from another human when they’re controlling the navigation and media systems. SVOX’s natural-sounding voices, across a wide range of languages, facilitate easy communication with their cars without drivers having to remove their eyes from the road.”
Hyundai used SVOX’s SpeechCreate technology to set up a virtual recording studio to produce the desired text-to-speech prompt sets. The PC-based tool enabled Hyundai to develop a leaner development process and allowed engineers to create a bespoke set of prompts to fit their needs.
“As in-car infotainment and navigation systems become more and more sophisticated and drivers want to stay connected while on the road, it is essential that technology is in place to ensure driver safety,” said Martin Reber, CEO of SVOX. “Drivers need to be able to use their phones, listen to music, and hear driving directions from their navigation systems, all while keeping their eyes on the road. We’re delighted to be working with Hyundai on the ix20, and on future models, to provide text-to-speech capabilities and to ensure that the driver can clearly understand feedback from the in-car systems.”
