SPIRIT Introduces Acoustic Echo Cancellation for Mobile Environment
MOSCOW, RUSSIA - SPIRIT, the eXpressDSP software house in Europe (Texas Instruments processor sales data 2001), has broadened its advanced Acoustic Echo cancellation product portfolio with Mobile Acoustic Echo Cancellation software solution designed to work in mobile devices. The software is an integrated solution with such features as echo cancellation, noise cancellation and narrow signal protection. Mobile Acoustic Echo cancellation software by SPIRIT is focused on the mobile telephony devices, embracing cellular phones, hands-free mobile sets, car-kits and smart-phone devices. People are going increasingly mobile, using small, portable devices to communicate, and are looking for improved quality of their communication. Requirements to sound clarity make acoustic echo cancellation more critical than ever as one of fundamental factors influencing communication quality. Not less important is growing tendency to avoid the harmful microwave influence of mobile phone closely pressed to the head, which leads to broad use of hands-free devices and high demand for echo free speech quality. Improvement in sound quality is achieved through a combination of techniques including: -full-duplex control, -high robustness to the specifics of mobile equipment, such as noise and non-linear distortions -reliable double-talk detector, -enhanced non-linear processing, -sub-band processing and adaptive filtering. The software is distinguished by such features as: True full-duplex speakerphone operation, More than -42dB total echo rejection, Fast convergence, Dynamic adaptation to changing conditions such as noise, speech levels, or delay. "Now that wireless communication is rapidly growing, we observe the high demand by mobile users for products that solve the problem of poor voice quality caused by echoes and harsh noise environments. Consumers have higher expectations for communication quality and modern feature-rich communication devices are driving demand for quality speakerphone operation," said Andrew Sviridenko, SPIRIT's CEO. "In today's wireless arena, voice quality has become the key to retaining customers. Striving to meet high requirements for voice quality within our broad DSP telecom product line, SPIRIT readily offers mobile chip providers and cellular phone manufacturers an opportunity to comply with strong customer needs by utilizing SPIRIT's Acoustic Echo Cancellation." A working version of Mobile Acoustic Echo Cancellation software by SPIRIT is offered in two modifications, written as fixed-point DSP code, and is readily ported to multiple DSP or RISC architectures, such as Texas Instruments C54x, C55x, ARM7/9/strong ARM/xscale/Calm16.
