Portugal Telecom Inovacao Chooses Telisma

PARIS, FRANCE and AVEIRO, PORTUGAL - Portugal Telecom Inovacao, the Portugal Telecom's company for the development and implementation of new value-added services, products and applications, and Telisma, a European developer of speech technologies, announce the signature of a worldwide agreement. PT Inovação's vocal interactive multi-services platform, INOVOX, integrates Telisma's ASR engine and VoiceXML interpretor. For PT Inovação, speech-based services are one of the key areas that respond today to customers needs and will ensure competitiveness for the Portugal Telecom Group in both the Portuguese and the International markets. According to the company, the potential Portuguese speaking market for such services is huge. In Portugal, 7 million inhabitants out of 10 millions are already mobile subscribers. With its large population, Brazil is also a very active market for voice services deployments, especially in mobile environments. "We chose Telisma for the unique performances of its carrier-grade technology in mobile environment and for its native density, which allows for large scale deployments at lower costs. We feel very confident with Telisma technology and its telco background" says Nuno Beires, Services and Applications department Director, from PTI. "We did not want to invest on an internal development for obvious time-to market reasons and absolutely needed openness, so as to be able to integrate various speech technologies on our platform when needed. Telisma provides us with this openness".
