PhoneAnything Secures First "Web-over-Phone" Contract
LONDON - PhoneAnything's new "Web-over-Phone" technology has been selected by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to extend the reach of their Web-based information. United Kingdom citizens can now access the full range of information available on DCMS's Web sites by dialing a special local-rate phone number. Users of the new service are likely to come from the majority of the United Kingdom's two million blind and partially sighted population without Internet access at home.
The technology could help organizations, both large and small, to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act by providing an organization's up-to-date, Web-based information to visually impaired individuals over any phone. Developed with the support of the Royal National Institute of the Blind, Web-over-Phone is currently being tried with a wide range of United Kingdom companies and organizations.
