Nuance's Voice Technology Added To LG Remote
Nuance Communications today said its new Dragon TV platform is the technology used in the new LG Magic Remote, which provides voice recognition features for the LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV.
The news comes on the heels of last week’s Consumer Electronics Show where Nuance first unveiled Dragon TV, a voice and natural language understanding platform for all major TV, set-top box, remote control, and application platforms, including Linux, Android, and iOS.
With the LG Magic Remote, people can speak to the television to find movies, music, and games by name, actors, and keywords. The LG Magic Remote also provides voice capabilities that let users search for Web content by keyword or phrase or access social media content such as Facebook or YouTube. Languages initially supported are U.S. English, American Spanish, Canadian French, and Korean.
"TV manufacturers like LG have rapidly innovated their TVs and media content capabilities, but the traditional remotes and television guides have fallen behind. That's where voice comes in," said Michael Thompson, senior vice president and general manager of Nuance Mobile, in a statement. "Nuance's Dragon TV portfolio brings entertainment and media front and center with the ability to simply speak to find almost anything that is on TV or on demand."
