NMS Communications and Pactolus Demonstrate SIP Integration in IP Media Gateway

FRAMINGHAM, MA - NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), a supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks, has demonstrated integration of Fusion, its Internet Protocol (IP) telephony development platform, with an SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) software stack from Pactolus Communications Software Corporation. The integration reference demo shows call control functionality in a SIP-controlled media gateway, and highlights for network equipment developers the way with which NMS' Fusion voice-over-IP software integrates with SIP stacks. Developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), SIP is a signaling protocol that enables real-time communications on the Internet, including voice-over-IP calling, instant messaging, videoconferencing, multimedia conferencing and chat sessions. Furthermore, the 3G Partnership Project (3GPP) has selected SIP as the call control standard, making it a protocol for wireless services such as multimedia messaging services (MMS) that span fixed and mobile networks. Pactolus and NMS share an alliance in which Pactolus currently leverages NMS' Fusion software and Convergence Generation (CG) 6000 hardware platform within its Pactolus RapidFLEX Media Server, designed to provide voice announcement, IVR, and conferencing capabilities. The NMS' CG 6000 is purpose-built to be a low-latency, IP media-streaming platform, offering full-function software and hardware for creating IP-based communication solutions for deployment in enterprise and service provider networks. To assist communications equipment developers in the design of SIP-controlled gateways, NMS offers the Fusion SIP Sample Application. The Fusion/SIP application demonstrates call set up between two parties using a Fusion-based gateway and a SIP stack. An application can be written to tie together the control functions of the SIP stack, which processes call signaling messages across the Internet, and NMS Fusion APIs. NMS' Fusion provides a common set of APIs for use across all supported protocols and hardware platforms. With NMS Fusion and SIP, developers can streamline programming requirements and support new services such as presence, real-time instant messaging, instant conferencing and real-time multimedia services.
