NMS Communications Provides the Engine for Voice Mobility's New Messaging Platform
FRAMINGHAM, MA - NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), a supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks, is providing the telecommunications engine to Voice Mobility International Inc. for its carrier-grade enhanced messaging systems. Voice Mobility chose NMS' system building blocks for its UCN 200 enhanced services platform that allows carriers to offer their subscribers new unified communications services, and replace legacy voicemail equipment at a reduction in operating costs. Aliant Telecom, one of Canada's largest telecommunications companies, is the first to offer commercial unified communications solutions to its customers using Voice Mobility's UCN 200 platform. "Over the last four years we have used a variety of NMS voice platforms in production servers supplied by Voice Mobility," says Heinz Graef, e-Business service planner for Aliant Telecom. "Being an ILEC, reliability and stability are as important as functionality and feature set, and we have been very pleased in both regards." Today's global wireless and wireline voicemail market consists of approximately 500 million mailboxes, with a growth rate in North America of 15-35% per year. This has left carriers with the challenge of keeping up with growth and offering their longtime customers new services while keeping operational costs at a minimum in this highly competitive market. Voice Mobility's UCN 200 is intended to decrease carrier voicemail infrastructure costs by as much as 70 percent and increase revenue up to 20 percent. This is due in part to the open, scalable, and high-performance design of NMS' Convergence Generation (CG) 6500 and Alliance Generation (AG) 4000 development platforms. "Voice Mobility has worked closely with NMS for more than four years in the design and development of our scalable carrier-grade enhanced messaging platform. Incorporating NMS' high call density into our product provides a key market differentiator," said Paul Weyer, Voice Mobility's director, development and technology. "The assistance and support we've received from NMS has proven very valuable in the creation and quick time-to-market of our high performance and high density solution. Integrys, NMS' Authorized Reseller in Canada, has provided assistance in system integration, component analysis, and distribution, which has enabled Voice Mobility to enter markets and meet our clients' needs efficiently and effectively." "Voice Mobility is addressing a critical need in the market that until now has been untouched that of helping carriers transition from the relentless capital drain of legacy equipment that doesn't even meet the demands of subscribers today," said Gerrold Walker, vice president and general manager of NMS' Platform Solutions business. "We've developed our open and flexible platforms for these complex and challenging times. We anticipate global carriers will follow in the footsteps of Aliant and adopt Voice Mobility's solution that enables service continuity for today's voicemail customers while providing a path for enhanced services offerings."
