NCT Licenses Voice Technologies to Trilogy
Cambridge technology company NCT licensed its voice technology products to Trilogy Communications Ltd, a supplier of audio communications and infrastructure equipment. Trilogy licensed NCT's Noise Reduction (ASF), Speech in Noise Detector (SND) and Intelligent Squelch Filter (ISF) algorithms to provide DSP-based voice conditioning on a system that interfaces to UHF and VHF radio base stations.
NCT's noise reduction, echo cancellation and signal conditioning software is used in 3G phones and hands-free car kits around the world. Either integrated into audio chips or into customer software applications, NCT's ClearSpeech technologies remove background noise and acoustic echo.
Trilogy's engineers are using a hardware platform based on the BlackFin BF533 DSP, serving eight radio channels. During the recent devastating Hurricane and subsequent flooding in New Orleans, Trilogy equipment was part of the relief effort. With all fixed communications infrastructure out of action, the National Guard flew in four of their IC4U tactical communications units from California. These mobile trucks use Trilogy's Mercury IP communications to provide interoperability between disparate radio systems being used by some of the relief agencies brought in to help. In addition, the IP satellite reach-back capability allows communication with the central command headquarters set up to manage the emergency.
