Meridian Licenses Fonix Technology for 511 Traffic Information Service

Meridian Environmental Technology, a provider of weather forecasting and road information services, has deployed a 511 traveler information service in Georgia that incorporates Fonix speech recognition technology.

"With Meridian’s 511 system, drivers access travel-related information with simple voice commands," explained Mark Owens, vice president of Meridian Transportation Services. "The system utilizes Fonix speech recognition technology to query a database for highway information. Drivers call 5-1-1, and the application enables them to access information about weather and road conditions as well as accidents, construction projects, and other general travel information."

Meridian and Fonix have previously partnered to incorporate Fonix speech recognition into Meridian’s 511 traveler information systems in Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska and Montana.
