Envox Worldwide Appoints Mark D. Flanagan CEO
Envox Worldwide's board of directors has appointed Mark D. Flanagan as CEO, expanding his previous role as the company's president and chief operating officer. In his new capacity, Flanagan will assume full responsibility for the company's global strategy and day-to-day operations. Flanagan replaces Henrik Thomé, the company's co-founder, and former chief executive officer and general manager of its EMEA operation, who has resigned his full-time responsibilities with Envox Worldwide to launch Sonetel, a Stockholm-based company that will provide turnkey voice-over-broadband solutions to service providers focused on the enterprise market.
Before joining Envox Worldwide in May 2002, Flanagan was the co-founder, president and chief operating officer of Sonexis. Prior to that, he was the founder, president and CEO of Brooktrout Software. He has also held senior management positions with Kurzweil Applied Intelligence, International Data Group, Lotus Development, and General Computer, among others.
Thomé will remain a member of the Envox Worldwide board of directors and will stay involved in the company's day-to-day business in EMEA on a consulting basis. A recently signed OEM agreement between Envox Worldwide and Sonetel will provide the foundation for Thomé's new business venture. Sonetel's distributed SoftPBX solution, which will be based in part on the Envox 6 Communications Development Platform, will provide service providers and their enterprise customers with significant price/performance advantages as compared to existing IP PBX, IP Centrex and Hosted PBX solutions.
In additional organizational news, Envox Worldwide confirmed that Nick Applegarth, previously the senior vice president of marketing and sales for Envox EMEA, has been promoted to managing director of Envox EMEA. Also, John Joseph, previously the company's director of corporate marketing, has been promoted to the position of vice president of corporate marketing. Nick Applegarth will continue in his role as senior vice president of Envox Worldwide assisting in the development of the company's global business strategy. Applegarth and Joseph will both report directly to Mark Flanagan.
Applegarth joined Envox Worldwide in November 2004, and has been responsible for all of the market and customer development activities in the region over the past six months. Before joining Envox, Applegarth spent four years as the managing director of Nuance EMEA. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Octel Communications (later Lucent Technologies), where he held numerous management positions including vice president of service provider messaging, director of Continental Europe, director of distribution and OEMs, and director of Central/Southern Europe among others. He also spent nine years at CASE Communications (later Dowty Communications and Cray Communications) where, after numerous promotions within the sales organization, he became their international sales director.
Since joining Envox Worldwide in September 2003, Joseph has been responsible for the company's global marketing initiative, including all product management, marketing communications and product marketing activities. Prior to joining Envox, Joseph held senior marketing roles with Kurzweil Applied Intelligence, Inc. and Lernout and Hauspie Speech Products, where he was involved in the development and launch of over 20 products.
