Emerging Technologies Launches University Bilingual Voice Portal in Al Ain

AL AIN, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - UAE University, an academic institution in the United Arab Emirates and Emerging Technologies, a speech recognition solutions provider, have announced the signing of an agreement for the launch of the first university bilingual voice portal in the region. The UAE University voice portal will be available for students, faculty and parents to use, starting from the academic year September 2003. In its first phase the voice portal will enable course registration and grade inquiries via phone and eventually provide the University's Web based information and enable parents to check student's attendance. "UAE University, being a pioneer in adopting new technologies, has opted for speech recognition solution to facilitate improved registration and grades tracking methodology for our 16,000 students, their parents and 2,500 faculty members." said Dr. Mohammed Mansour, deputy vice chancellor for student affairs, UAE University. "Our voice portal will be the first of its type worldwide and we hope that universities all over the world will follow sought to ease administration process and provide spontaneous information." "With Emerging Technologies Voice Enabled solutions, students, faculty members & parents can easily use their natural language & local dialects to make telephone calls & access a university's portal content, finalize registration procedures & retrieve grades," said Sassine Mazraani, managing director, Emerging Technologies. The UAE University voice portal will provide Students Registration Voice Services which would include student registration, courses add/drop, registration confirmation, listening to registered courses, listening to courses schedule, information on course registration and information on time schedule for registration. Also, the voice portal would provide Students Grades Inquiry Voice Services which will include Grades inquiry on courses and exams, Inquiry on semester grades and semester GPA, Inquiry on academic status and Inquiry on cumulative GPA.
