Dictaphone PowerScribe from Nuance Tops 1,000 Customers
BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Nuance Communications’ Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions scored its 1,000th customer win last week when Yale-New Haven Hospital signed on to use its Dictaphone PowerScribe dictation application throughout its 118-member Radiology Department.
Nuance also recently added St. Barnabas Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Hospital, both in New York, and the University of Connecticut Medical Center in Storrs, Conn., to the growing list of healthcare organizations relying on its PowerScribe solution.
"It is critical that we have one complete solution that quickly and reliably delivers core radiology reporting, critical results management and diagnostic support technologies," said Michael Matthews, director of clinical information systems for the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Yale-New Haven Hospital. "PowerScribe will help provide us the control, consistency and flexibility that our radiological staff needs to rapidly complete a report anytime and anywhere."
The 118-member radiology staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital will use PowerScribe to reduce turnaround time for the more than 365,000 reports it processes annually. PowerScribe will integrate with Yale-New Haven's Radiology Information System (RIS) from GE Medical and Picture Archiving and
Communications System (PACS) software from FUJIFILM Medical Systems to:
. Provide direct access to PowerScribe from within the PACS software, while consolidating workstations in the reading room;
. Share patient and report information between the PACS and speech recognition applications;
. Eliminate error-prone manual input of accession/work order numbers; and
. Ensure a dramatic reduction in report turnaround time while maintaining user productivity.
"Speech recognition reporting systems such as PowerScribe have become a requisite for radiology departments and imaging centers that want to become highly efficient and offer market leading service to their referring clinician base," said Peter Durlach, senior vice president of marketing and product strategy for Nuance’s Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions unit. "We are extremely gratified that 1,000 customers have chosen PowerScribe as their mission-critical radiology reporting solution. We expect this number to continue to grow rapidly as we evolve the PowerScribe platform, add functionality and expand our industry partnerships.
"Our customers are showing dramatic cost savings, speeding report turnaround, and customizing the way their radiological reports are created and shared," he continued. "As our PowerScribe customer base continues to grow, we will rely on customers like Yale-New Haven Hospital to help us further achieve and expand the value of highly accurate speech recognition reporting and clinical communication tools."
