BigHand Launches iPad App

BigHand, a digital dictation, speech understanding, and clinical correspondence solution provider, has launched a mobile iPad application, FreeMe, for the medical industry.

FreeMe presents doctors with a list of all of the documents that require their review and approval, while on the move. The clinician can then review, amend, and return these documents, such as patient letters and referrals, to their secretaries. FreeMe documents are available in most formats, including Microsoft Word, rich text, and plain text.

The app is part of BigHand's latest digital dictation software release for the U.K. healthcare market, BigHand 4.3, that also includes speech understanding technology and a dedicated electronic document approval suite.

"We developed this application for the iPad having highlighted a need for clinicians to be able to access and review important documents remotely between appointments and when away from their base in order for them to be approved quickly," said James Kippenberger, managing director of U.K. healthcare at BigHand, in a statement. "The development of this app is a significant step toward improving efficiencies and performance, which will ultimately have a positive impact on the delivery of care to patients."
